The Perfect Medical School Graduation Gift
I received this beautiful watch as a graduation gift from my fiance. It seems almost cliché to say, since I've heard this phrase used over and over on internet reviews, but pictures do not do this timepiece justice. Aesthetically, the watch is a beauty. The chocolate tone and rose gold accents, combined with the brown strap make the watch pop visually. This is not my most expensive watch by a long shot, but gets more compliments than most of my other watches combined. The open heart, 24 hour dial, and small seconds hand complications add a layer of complexity, which is not overdone due to the exclusion of a date conplication. Having a date window would be too much, and Bulova wisely refrained from including one. The case size is 42mm which is on the large side, as the style tends to be these days, without being overly large. Mechanically, this watch is solid. Inside of its open heart beats a Miyota 8200 series automatic movement, which ticks reliably at 21600 beats per hour. This movement is used in a large variety of watches, from Bulova to Junkers German watches, to microbrand watches, and for food reason. It is an accurate and reliable movement, and quite a workhorse. I expect it to last for years without requiring any sort of servicing. It loses just a few seconds per day, well within the specs for an automatic watch. The rotor that winds the watch is smooth and silent, which is something I can't say for certain Swiss movements like some ETA 7750's. The only "downside" is that at 21600 bph, the movement is not quite as smooth as 28800 Swiss movements, but the small second hand effectively cancels out any benefits you'd see from a smoother movement anyway. Plus, the lower bph movement is sturdier, and a high frequency movement at this price point would require cost cutting for other aspects of the watch. Overall, this watch is a steal at the price it is being offered. It is aesthetically pleasing and tastefully crafted. It feels solid in hand. The Miyota movement powering it is reliable and precise. I am thrilled to own one.
