Nice but not too bright...

Excellent basic military watch however the illuminating dial markers and hands illumination level was low. In pitch black after exposure to bright light the numbers, hands and markers were dim.

Nice quality watch-BUT no start up manual

I would have given the review 5 stars EXCEPT the was no set up up manual. There was was a pamphlet with a title set up instructions but, when you opened up pamphlet there were directions on where to find it on the website to download. DUH!!! JUST PUT THE INSTRUCTIONS IN PAMPHLET!!!!! When I open a watch box want to take out the watch and set it up and wear it at that moment NOT DOWNLOAD A PDF FILE!! The watch is just what I wanted. The watch looks even better than the image on the Bulova website. The crown is large and is very easy to grasp to change the time setting. It is comfortable on the wrist has a very classy appearance for a military style watch. The OD woven watch band is OK for those, like myself, who like the military look and has a comfortable feel. The appearance is so good that you could replace the band with a nice leather one and use it as a dress watch. Truly very nice piece of hardware.

Explain Hack

As a US Navy Instrumentman and mechanical calibration technician in the 70's, I was also a Navy watchmaker. This original watch was made by Hamilton, Benrus, Gruen, and a couple others and they were all the same style. But the purpose of a "Hack" was a mechanical lever that stopped the balance wheel and thereby stopped the watch so a group of military people could synchronize their watches for whatever reason. By pulling out the crown (winder) the hack stops the watch while you set it and then at the same time everyone pushes the crown back in which restarts everyone's watch to the same time. Just like in the movies!

Bulova Response We appreciate you sharing your knowledge of Hack watches, and thank you for your service! Bulova has a storied military history, including the production of action-ready watches commissioned by the U.S. government for soldiers during the Second World War. Among their contributions was the iconic ‘A-11’ specification navigation watch, commonly known as the ‘Hack’ watch. These watches had to meet strict accuracy standards, and as you noted, the 'hack' feature allows the second hand to stop when the crown was pulled, enabling synchronization for coordinated missions. Bulova takes pride in its military history, and our collection of military-inspired watches is a reflection of that legacy.

Very happy with the look and feel

Great look and feel of the watch. The band could be a little better, seams on the stitching catches a bit, threading through the band.
