Space Race Winning Watch Stops Time
I have always been a fan of Bulova. This passion started in the 70s. This was when I fell in love with Bulova Accutron with its tuning fork accuracy. I wanted this watch. I had to wait until my 40s to own one. Bought second - maybe third hand - online. It was the railroad version: Already vintage but pristine looking and humming to them rhythm of time. Perfection. (see image) We should never forget that before the quartz movement there was the Accutron. Now Bulova has another world first with the 262 Khz. I used to think there was only one iconic watch which went to the moon. The release of the Bulova Special Edition Moon Chronograph made me think again. It's mixture or serious homage to the past and its superlative new 262 movement make it the watch with everything a watch lover would want. I already own several Bulovas. It has been a favourite watch brand since I was a kid. My Bulova collection has marked out some of the biggest moments in my life. With the Bulova Moon Watch I have come full circle. Owning one is a dream come true. I spent my early life - before my teens - glued to the television coverage of the moon landings. I shared the excitement of that first walk across the Sea of Tranquillity; the shock and then awe as Apollo 13 finally made it back to earth and the sense of achievement when the shuttle first lifted off and the highs and lows of its many missions. This was the real space age. It's an era which is now gone. I was glad to have seen it as it happened - in real time. Bulova brings it all back. Bulova's Moon Watch has done something astonishing. It has shown us the future of time whilst allowing time to stand still so we can remember. Back in 1971 Bulova was the real deal and an integral component on the space race. Better still the original Bulova, which Dave Scott wore on Apollo 15, was the watch which went to the moon when others had failed to function. That says a lot about the brand and what it stands for. This re-edition is so faithful to the original look it feels like you are wearing the beating heart of history on your wrist. You get lost into its design just gazing into the face. The detail, the dials, the Tachymeter, the lume and the smooth movement of the hands seems to draw you in. Storytelling and timekeeping at its best. The thrill of receiving and owning the Bulova Moon Watch goes beyond the piece itself. Bulova have really thought long and hard about the packaging. It does not come in a box. It comes in a presentation case. Beautifully designed, painstakingly documented and packed with some serious extras. The lug tool is a nice touch but the two functional and elegant straps and a revelations. They look and feel modern but they never lose sight of the heritage - especially the branded velcro space strap. It is a very cool touch - and to this Bulova fan too precious to use. I'm keeping the original straps under wraps. (see image) The Moon Watch is the very best in time keeping and time recording technology skilfully integrated into a case which highlights the very best of different age. The Space Age.
