Not water resistant

This watch is supposed to be water resistant to 30m as it states in the description. However when it started losing time after only a few months I was told that this watch can not go in the water at all, that it would be ok if it got splashed or sprinkled on only. Why would anyone think that water resistance 30m means you can not go in the water with it at all. Very disappointed .
