MIL SHIPS
In 1955, the U.S. Navy issued the MIL-SHIPS-W-2181, requesting proposals for a U.S.-made military dive watch for combat divers and the emerging Explosives Ordnance Disposal specialty. Bulova submitted its design which, while never formally issued, was evaluated by the Navy Experimental Diving Unit between 1957 and 1958. Now, in partnership with Bulova and rooted in the original Navy MIL-SHIPS program, the Bulova MIL-SHIPS Navy EOD timepiece represents a collective effort to honor the history, service, and culture of Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal. Every element of the watch reflects function, durability, and an unwavering respect for the original program. Housed in a 41mm grade 5 titanium case and offered with both rubber hybrid Cordura® and nylon NATO straps, the watch preserves its historic design while receiving upgraded materials for the modern era. Enhancing durability, a bi-directional bezel with its aluminum insert surrounds a double-domed sapphire crystal while a screw-down crown delivers 200m water resistance. Prioritizing the legibility demanded by divers, the dial is kept simple, with bold hands and hour markers treated with luminescent material and a bicolor moisture indicator strip. Distinguishing this special collaboration, the dial is printed with “USN-EOD” and a high-relief Navy EOD crab is stamped onto the solid case back. Ensuring exceptional accuracy and mechanical reliability, the watch is powered by a Swiss automatic Sellita SW200 movement with a 42-hour power reserve. Available exclusively by invitation and accompanied by a commemorative photo booklet and memorial card honoring those whose lives were lost on EOD missions, the Bulova MIL-SHIPS Navy EOD watch serves to preserve, protect, and respect the legacy behind its name, acting as a tribute to all those who serve and have served in the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal units.
